ABOUT KINGSWOOD
Kingswood opened in Manhattan’s West Village in September 2007, quickly becoming a neighborhood favorite. The restaurant’s seasonally driven menu, devised by accomplished English chef Michael Hamilton, is a contemporary take on classic Sydney pub fare, with local ingredients used whenever possible.
Kingswood’s vibe is energetic and refreshingly unpretetious, with a lively bar scene every night of the week.
In its first year alone, Kingswood received a host of accolades, including “Best Bar Meal” (2008) by New York Magazine, a recommendation in the Michelin New York Restaurant Guide (2009), and a rating in Forbes Magazine’s Top 20 New York Restaurants (2008).

Chef Michael Hamilton’s story
is a familar one. After studying French,
psychology, and business studies at
university, he found himself working as a
silver service waiter at the Carlyon Bay Hotel
in his native Cornwall. It was
not long before he was in the kitchen with his
first serious foray at Rick Stein’s
Seafood Restaurant in Padstow(Cornwall).
Hamilton went on to train under
some of the world’s most influential chefs,
including Raymond Blanc (Le Petit Blanc),
Daniel Boulud (Daniel), and Gordon Ramsy
(Gordon Ramsay at the London). During this
time he began to appreciate…
…the importance of working with local producers and acquired the discipline needed to procedure the finest food. At Kingswood since its inception, Hamilton was also a part of the opening team at Anthony’s in Leeds, the Michenlin-awarded Black Pig in Cornwall, and Gordon Ramsay at the London Hotel in New York. Still true to the French technique of his mentors, Hamilton now gives his food a more rustic finish using seasonal, local produce from New York and the fines oils, herbs, and hard to find spices from around the world.
The Kingswood
is designed to bring the outdoors inside
Taking inspiration from Jefferson Park-
among the most picturesque public spaces in
New York City and separated from
the Kingswood only by tree-lined
West 10th Street-the idea is to make the
restaurant seem a natural extension
of its botanical surroundings. Natural light
filters through the windows and skylights,
filling the Kingswood with a sense
of openness and spatial freedom reflective of
grander outdoor spaces. The atrium,
which immediately greets guests upon their
entry, is filled with hanging Ivy and..
…various plants in natural harmony
with the restaurant and its evirons.
The dining room is designed in the style of an
old country barn-with a Victorian twist.
Antique oak dining tables, staghorn ferns,
recyled timber floors, and a cooper bar are
offset by a highly frefined and almost regal
10th-century wallpaper (salvaged from
original Victorian-era homes) and a backlit
wall of old French windows. The effect is
warm, comfortable and inviting.
